FAST FIX: HOW TO GET A ZIPPER UNSTUCK

Get out of a snap with help from a simple household item.

A stuck zipper is annoying at best, impossible to escape at worst. While you may be tempted to tug, yank and pull to get the zipper to slide, physical force is a risky move that may damage your clothing.

The next time you’re stuck in a cocktail dress or can’t get your coat undone, fear not — there’s a quick solution. If you have lip balm handy, rub a small amount on the teeth of the zipper, then slowly maneuver the pull up and down until it slides freely.

No lip balm available? Graphite — the writing material found in many pencils — is a natural lubricant as well. Grab a pencil and rub the graphite down both sides of the zipper to help smooth the teeth, then zip up and down slowly until you’re released. Headache, Gone.
